A car chase on Interstate-25 ended with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arresting a Pueblo man on multiple counts, including eluding police and kidnapping.
Around 10:20 p.m. Dec. 6, sheriff’s deputies were alerted by the Colorado Springs Police Department that a white SUV being driven by Eric Morales, 27, who had warrants out for his arrest, allegedly hit a Colorado Springs police patrol car and was heading into Douglas County.
The deputies were told that a woman and a child were also in the car.
Morales allegedly ignored Douglas County law enforcement attempts to pull the car over going north on I-25 near Happy Canyon Road, so deputies deployed stop sticks around Lincoln Avenue. Ultimately, police stopped the car at County Line Road.
Police closed the highway while responding.
The woman and child exited the car safely, but Morales allegedly initially refused to get out of the car.
A SWAT team was called to negotiate with Morales and eventually arrested him.
Morales is facing charges of felony kidnapping, vehicular eluding and criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanor charges of violation of a protection order, reckless driving, child abuse, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment. He is being held at the Douglas County Jail on no bond.
