Lone Tree implements fire restrictions

Following suit with many other Colorado municipalities and counties, Lone Tree has moved to Stage 1 fire restrictions.

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag and High Wind warnings for Douglas County throughout the day on Friday. Fire conditions are going to be extreme, according to NWS, which adds that the Denver Metro area has experienced this weather only one other time since  2010.

Winds are expected to be 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, while relative humidity is predicted to be low at 9%.

Under Stage 1 fire restrictions, open burning of any kind, the sale or use of fireworks, discarding smoking materials, welding outdoors and operating an internal combustion engine without a spark arrestor are all prohibited.

Castle Rock and Douglas County also announced on Thursday that Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place.

Violations of the city's fire restrictions could result in a fine up to $500.
