Douglas County commissioners sworn in

Commissioners George Teal and Lora Thomas were sworn in during an in-person and virtual event hosted by Douglas County Jan. 12.

Teal, who was elected in November, represents District 2, which includes Castle Rock, Castle Pines and many of the unincorporated portions of the county. Teal was a Castle Rock town council member for six years.

“It’s been a really long job interview for me this past year,” he said. “There’s been a lot of words. For me, the time for words being spoken is actually coming to an end… the time for listening begins now.”

Teal was accompanied by his wife and two children during the swearing-in ceremony.

Thomas, who was re-elected in November, first came into office in 2017. Her significant other and niece stood beside her while she took the oath.

“The significance of what we do here today is not about celebrating a political victory, but instead it's the affirmation of a free people who make free choices,” she said. “I am very grateful for the faith and the confidence of those free people.”

Thomas, who represents District 3 — made up mostly of Highlands Ranch — is now the chairperson for the board of county commissioners.

“I can’t for a single moment contemplate anything less than my full devotion in serving those people to the utmost of my efforts and my abilities,” she said.
